Wildwood
In 1970 one of Santee’s largest home developments began. When the build-out was completed it totaled 985 homes. The development was name Wildwood and it stretches from Pricess Joann on the North East end of Santee all the way to Beck. If you ask the people that live in these homes today (about 41 years later) I would be surprised if many would be able to tell you the name of the development is Wildwood. The Santee development offered six new home models. The least expensive home the Briarwood had a sales price that started from $23,300. If you purchased the home with FHA financing your total payment was $210 per month which included principal, interest, taxes and insurance. The most expensive home, the Cherrywood, had a sales price that started from $31,200. That total monthly payment would have run you about $274 per month. The original brochure states that included drapes! Homes in this area today sell from $250,000 to approximately $400,000! The developer marketed the homes as having “Total Space”. In the original brochure Total Space is described as “…having enough room for that boat, camper, garden or pool you’ve always wanted…with enough yard left over for the kids! Total space is that privacy you have always wanted!” The homes have between 13 to 15 feet between homes on one side of the property.
